Lately we’ve been getting a lot of comments on Emily’s personality, and I’m (pretty) sure it’ s not a veiled in
sult about her looks.
Emily is a fountain of squawking, flapping, clapping, dancing, chatting, and squealing.
It’s now an established pattern that Emily’s exuberance causes more sensitive babies to cry.
She’s not trying to be the nursery bully- she just gets so excited.

4 1/2 years ago these ladies stood beside me at my wedding.

Fast forward a few years and toss in four babies, all born this year:

Since I have nothing interesting for her 10 month post, I thought I’ d finally show you her
dedication pictures.

Our pastors praying for Emily
At the end of January we dedicated Emily to the Lord (basically stated our intention to teach Emily about Jesus and giving our church the chance to pray for us). It’s not a huge de
al, but it was special, and we were glad to have our parents
and many of our friends there.

So I’ m a little late posting this because I spent the week
madly childproofing the house.
The baby is now on the loose! She’s got the army crawl down and will hunt down any speck of ANYTHING you dropped on the floor. At the moment, she is gnawing on
the computer.
Ah, the joys of a mobile baby.

On Saturday, Josh was wonderful and took us hiking at Montana de Oro.

Some of the moms and I had a “Let’s all dress up our babies in those Christmas outfits they’ll rarely get to wear and take pictures” party. (We’ll grasp at any excuse for a party.)
If the babies look mesmerized, it’s because there are five grown women dancing around behind the camera, jingling toys and generally making fools of themselves trying to get five babies to simultaneously look at the camera.

You also have to periodically jump in to keep the babies from maul
ing each other.

We also had fun at the Olsen’ s annual Gingerbread Hou
se making party.
Some of the other houses were amazing.
The winning house was a recognizable model of the cathedral of Notre Dame complete with stained glass windows and gummy bear gargoyles.
In keeping with my tradition, I always create a candy landscape (gotta use that degree somehow!). This ye ar it w
as a walled in Chinese garden with a moon gate and a viewing pavilion overlooking the lake.

As she grows older, we’ve enjoyed seeing Emily’ s per
sonality unfold.
She’s a pretty mellow baby- rarely cries, but often zeroes in on you with this intensely studious gaze.
I think she’s calculating how she can cram you into her mouth.

Three generations of Thompson women went to tea at the Huntington Library (notice Emily’s intense stare):

Emily mostly ate her hand.
Apparently it’s delicious.

Congratulations Emily, you’ ve survi
ved half a year with Josh and I as your parents!
Thanks for all those big, toothless smiles.
Solving the question of what Emily would look like as a blond (and as an opera singer):

You never know what you’ll find at the bottom of
the vegetable drawer.

(Apparently I’m very amused by baby costumes.)
